Only 59% of UK children can swim 25 metres unaided and too many miss out on the confidence, joy and safety that swimming can bring.
At SwimFin, our mission has always been to help children feel confident and safe in the water.
That’s why we’re delighted that the University of East London (UEL) has conducted the first academic study exploring SwimFin’s impact in school swimming and beyond.
The study focused on both swimming competence and fear of water among primary-aged children and the results are very encouraging:
Aquatic Competence….
Using a modified version of the validated Actual Aquatic Skills Test (AAST) the children using SwimFin demonstrated measurable progress over 12 weeks (6 hours) covering key competencies, achieving an average score of 76%

Fear of Water……
Many felt the SwimFin helped them try new skills and enjoy their time in the water.
More research and data is coming but these early findings highlight SwimFin’s potential to support not just swimming ability and technique but also confidence and enjoyment.
We’re proud to see SwimFin included in this important conversation on swimming education and water safety and grateful to UEL for leading the way in researching innovative approaches that can truly make a difference for children.
